Abstract: Calcium has been recognized as a potent chemosterilizing agent that causes generation of free radicals inside the biological system. Citric acid, found in many fruits, has been reported to have calcium chelating property. The present study evaluates possible ameliorating property of citric acid on calcium induced reproductive toxicity in adult male albino rats. Adult male Wister rats were treated with calcium salt in effective doses in addition to supplementation of citrate. Altered testicular structural and functional status along with altered levels of oxidative stress markers were observed ensuing calcium treatment while citric acid supplementation along with calcium exposure shown to prevent the altered parameters. Outcomes suggest that citric acid may have mitigating role against calcium induced functional disruption of male reproductive function.
