Abstract: These days, there have been an emerging concern was observed among people regarding health, especially gym-practice, which has become most used fitness media during last few decades. The present study was designed to assess whether regular gym going modulates physiological fitness or not. The study was carried out in randomly selected male gym goers (mean age 22.0) of Kolkata over against non-gym-goer college students (mean age 21.3). A significant difference (p<0.05) in blood pressure, PFI, energy expenditure and upper arm circumference was found in gym goers. Quite in the opposite, BMI, body fat percentage, BSA, resting heart rate, anaerobic power, VO2 max, thigh and calf circumferences were found to be non-significant. This study infers a definite positive influence of regular gym going over physical fitness and muscle mass (strength) and also an influence over cardiovascular fitness. But along with strength exercise, more endurance exercise is required for better endurance, for better health and fitness.
